Food review: The Cravings Place Ooey Gooey Chocolatey Chewy Brownie Mix

I've bought this mix several times, it is quite good. It does not have a 'beany' taste from the mixture of different flours. It can get rather gooey in the middle (especially when I add extra dark chocolate chips), but that just makes it all the better, right? Or at least I think so...

Also goes quite well with a nice glass of merlot.

Food review: Pamela's Baking & Pancake Mix

I bought this mix to make pancakes for my son and I. This mix did rather well making pancakes, the pancakes were not really fluffy, but I prefer less fluffy pancakes. The taste was close to flour pancakes, not overly 'beany'.
My teen son liked them enough to eat them w/o complaining too much. The leftover pancakes tasted quite nice the next day rewarmed for breakfast.

This mix is good to keep around for when I get that pancake craving.

Food review: Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All Purpose Baking Flour

For the holidays last year I wanted to make a pumpkin pie with a gluten free crust. So I bought this flour mix to see how it worked out.

For pumpkin pie it worked out well, the main ingredient is garbonzo bean flour and works well with pumpkin.

But when I made a crust to make a chocolate pie, the garbonzo taste did not go well with the chocolate and I ended up throwing out the pie after a few slices.

You need to be mindful of what you are making with this flour and consider how the overly strong garbonzo taste will mix with the other ingredients.

Food review: Pamela's Chocolate brownie mix

I bought this because I wanted something chocolate and sweet and a brownie. The process making the brownies was easy, mix, bake, cool, eat.

But I do not like the flavor, the brownies have an overly 'bean' taste. I am not fond of this flavor and will not buy this brand again.

Anyone want half of a pan of brownies?

Food review: Intro

I admit it, I have a sweet tooth, and I was a wheat/flour addict. But since I now get a migraine headache 24 hrs after eating wheat (even a single donut will start one), I've written off that part of my diet. Even eating oatmeal for a week caused the next week to be a week of migraine hell. Not worth it at all.

So I have been trying out various 'gluten free' mixes for cakes and breads and such. I only do this 2x month, I do not want to make this a consistent (and expensive) part of my diet. Being also on the Paleo food plan means that grains are off the menu, but you just have to have something sweet once in a while.

As I try gluten free products, I'll review them here.

Cider review: Intro

Well, since I cannot drink beer these days without getting a migraine headache (I am now sensitive to gluten - thanks for the allergy Mom), I've been sampling hard ciders that I find. I prefer sweeter ciders so that will affect my reviews. And I am going to be adding additional sweeteners to my home-brews since they have been dryer than I prefer.

On to the reviews!
