I purchased 2 pollen patties (Bee-Pro) from Stedmans (which I think they buy in case from Mann Lake). I put one under the inner cover of the hive and sprinkled a cup of bakers sugar on top. There are still a lot of bees in the hive (yeah!) and they took off after the sugar like madmen.
When the weather is over 54F, I see them flying and bringing in pollen. Looking at allergy.com, they say that birch and juniper is in bloom right now in my area.
Looks like they will survive the winter, if so, I'll look at splitting the hive. I also ordered another package of Carnie's that the neighbour and I are going to build a top bar hive for them to live in.
