Summer is over, time to winterize the hive.
The local bee club had a meeting about this, so since they know the seasons here I'm following their advice.
I took out the frames in the super and put a boardman feeder inside the empty box (the super had wax but no nectar stored there). Right now the bees can get all over the empty super. I am going to do something to keep them from doing that. I am also thinking about putting some type of insulation in the empty super to help keep heat in during the winter. And I've played with the idea of a cover to keep the rain off the hive.
I noticed a lot of activity a week ago so I put on an entrance reducer, I was afraid they were getting robbed and I don't want to loose the hive to that.
I've been feeding them a 1/1 syrup, they are gobbling it right up.
